RE: [xmca] Florida: History is factual & testable (& NOT constructed)

That´s a good question for which I don´t have an asnwer, Martin. The USA
system is messier than ours in Chile, and it´s unfair for different reasons.
But I do think that we should allow all the students to access information
that is relevant for their lifes, true -given the standards of a defensible
scientific practice-, and moral -given the standards of what is an informed
humanistic education. (I am aware that these are black boxes, worth of an
entire book on pedagogy here). If there are themes that are polemical we
should not train students in avoiding dialogue but in learning about the
opposites, their reasons and the arguments that instill their views. In
short, I don´t think that it helps democracy and moral development to let
the kids go out of the classroom for ideological reasons.

But David, at what level would you recommend that we mandate these things?
The school level? The school district? The state? The federal government?

Allowing parents/communities at least a modicum of control over the
schooling their children receive is not inherently a bad thing, surely.

And Florida is *not* applying the rationale to everything.
