But what would happen if we apply that rationale to everything? It would be
good for parents that dislike that their kids learn about evolution to opt
their child out of these lessons? And what about if they don't want their
kids to learn Spanish, or about other religions, and so on.

Dear David et al,

Without having yet read the full bill which I'm sure would raise all
kinds of hackles and objections, I think the statement on page 46 is
possibly the most reasonable resolution I can think of to what is to me
the unreasonable stance of some Religious Right folks and others on the
teaching of these topics. I much prefer the notion that a parent would
need to opt their child out of such a class session, than to think that
they would prohibit these things being taught at all. Then, perhaps, we
can rely on students who do get taught to provide an informal education
to their peers, no? ;-)
