The incumbent of this position will serve as a Health Scientist
Administrator in the Child Development and Behavior Branch (CDBB), one of
the four major scientific branches in the Center for Research for Mothers
and Children (CRMC) of the NICHD. The CDBB has primary responsibility for
stimulating and supporting research on the biobehavioral and psychological
aspects of development and behavioral aspects of health promotion and
disease prevention in children. The selected candidate will serve as the
Director for the Reading, Writing, and Related Disorders research program,
duties which include establishing goals and objectives for NICHD for
research addressing the neuropsychology, neurobiology, and genetics of the
typical reading process, the nature and mechanisms of reading disability,
and the development, implementation and testing the effectiveness of
interventions to ameliorate reading disabilities, and the relation of
writing abilities to reading.
