Dan,
I appreciate your appreciation and your feelings! Funny, I looked at your
message the moment I finished writing about the beginnings of our Institute
in the 60s ‹ simpler times and more open and creative times to be sure.
While I'm writing I'm listening to New Orleans rhythm and blues from the 50s
and 60s, and enjoying it tremendously.
Even in 1968 when I taught high school for one year before I began graduate
school, I didn't think of school as a partner but as incredibly oppressive
to the kids especially. (This was in Rhode Island.) Different life
experiences.
I think we each do what we have to do. I know that my despair at what we
humans are doing in and to the world is juxtaposed/counterposed by working
to help those I come in contact with to create together.
