The Department of Psychology at Skidmore College invites applications
for two tenure-track openings at the level of Assistant Professor to
begin Fall 2006. Skidmore College is a liberal arts institution of
approximately 2,200 students and 200 full-time faculty, located in
upstate New York. The Department has excellent teaching and research
facilities, supporting many opportunities for faculty/student
collaborative work in the classroom, lab and field. For one position
we seek a colleague who is a developmental psychologist with teaching
and research interests focusing on children. This position includes
the teaching of Introduction to Child Development, Cognitive
Development (with Lab), and a Special Topics Seminar (e.g., on infancy,
multicultural issues, or some other area of specialization). For the
second position, we seek a colleague with interests in covering
sections of Introductory Psychology, a section of Introductory
Statistics, and upper-level courses including a seminar. With area of
specialization open, coverage might include such areas as language,
adult development, health psychology, or multicultural issues. Both
positions also involve contributions to all-college requirements (e.g.,
by way of an interdisciplinary seminar). The College offers support for
faculty development in many ways, including junior sabbaticals,
start-up funds, and internal grants. Skidmore College seeks candidates
who are firmly committed to undergraduate education and to
faculty/student collaborative research. Skidmore College also seeks to
attract an academically and culturally diverse faculty, welcoming
applications from women and men of diverse backgrounds. Preference will
be given to those candidates with teaching experience who have a Ph.D.
in psychology or, if ABD, will have completed their degree by Fall
2006. The review process for this position will begin November 15,
2005. Candidates should send a vita, evidence of excellence in
teaching, selected reprints, and three letters of recommendation to:
