I have asked Sasha to prepare:
     * A CV, curriculum vitae, emphasising all your academic positions
and publications, conference attendances, etc., bringing out
especially your association with the first and second generation
of the Vygotsky/Luria/Leontyev school and Evald Ilyenkov. Remember
that it is Vygotsky and his work which is most widely known and
the majority of those who know him as teachers and
       educationalists, though also linguists, anthropologists
       philosophers, ... . :-)
A synopsis of your academic work, especially recent work, which you
think could form the basis for talks you could give to academics.
We may have to discuss this a lot, as it will be the main selling
       point.
     * A short biography which talks about your political experiences
before and after Gorbachev, for a progressive audience, including
Marxists and non-Marxists, interested in social justice.
     * The title for a speech or seminar you could give in the University
context, e,g, for postgraduate students, and
     * The title for a speech you could give for a public meeting e.g.,
       about Russia, and its prospects.

Let's see if people on the east coast are interested, how much
would it cost and if the moneys could be found.
Those of you who have an institutional support and are on the East
Coast, I would be willing to coordinate and organize, if someone
helps and if you have any suggestions how to raise money.
Also, I think it would be good to have a list of topics that will
be addressed by Sasha. Maybe also an abstract or two of his
     presentations. What do you think?

The itinerary is open Ana. At this point I am trying to put a
     viable
tour together, so a stop-over on the East Coast would be
     good,
provided there is someone there to host Sasha and make a
     contribution
to the cost of the trip.

Good idea, Andy. Let me see what I can organize at UCSD. Some
     idea
         of total
cost for transportation would help. And, of course, timing
     will be
         a big
         issue.

         Dear all,
I have offered to organise a speaking tour of Australia for
     Sasha
Surmava. I will be organising it under the aegis of the
     Victorian
Peace Network, as part of a series of such tours which
     aim to
         foster
collaboration between a diversity of social justice
     constituencies.
The hope is to cover the cost of air fares through University
contributions, leaving time for Sasha to talk to social
     justice
         groups
about life in the former soviet union, peace, social
     justice,
         poverty
and so on. Sasha is preparing a CV and other material that I
     can
         start
working with to gain interest from the Universities.
         I need help.
Firstly, could any of you XMCA-ers who are in Australia, please
conatct me so we can cooperate to find academic sponsors and
     also,
sympathetic hosts who could welcome Sasha in the different
     cities
         in
         Australia.
Secondly, the whole thing would be so much richer for Sasha and
     I
think more viable financially, if his return trip included
     some
         talks
in the US, and hopefully some contribution to the cost of the
     whole
         trip. :-)
The plan is to fit the trip in the period 25 June - 24 July
     2006.
         Any takers?
