Peter,
I just spoke to Ardie, Henry Trueba's wife.  She informed me that there will not be a big public memorial for Henry.  Instead, there will be a small funeral with family and a few close friends on Thursday, July 22.  Henry will be buried in a cemetery in the Oxnard/Camarillo area.

In lieu of flowers, she has told me that friends are invited to make donations/contributions to either of the following:

THE HENRY T. TRUEBA ENDOWMENT FUND or
        BOOKS FOR THE TRUEBA LIBRARY
        c/o Llano Grande Research Center
        1300 Cynthia Drive
        Edinburg, Tx 78539

Frank and Miguel Guajardo are coordinating these two projects.  Funds will be used for  student scholarships and internships for Latino students or those working on topics of interest.  The books will be placed in the Trueba House for the Library where students and the public can  read them or conduct research.  I do not have a phone number for them at this time.

Ardie wanted friends to remember Henry in the way that his life was celebrated at AERA with the Enrique Henry Trueba Tribute.  Nearly 1,000 people were in attendance and saw Henry's taped message to the audience.  There was Mariachi music, tributes and awards for his lifetime achievement and his life-long work in mentoring students. This event was video taped for Henry and we are happy that he was able to view it  and know how much he was loved and appreciate while he was still alive.  He told me that he was touched by the tribute and happy to see many, many of his friends in attendance. He laughed and enjoyed all the attention we gave him; it was like medicine he said.

We have lost a great scholar, a beloved friend and a tireless mentor. Those of us who had the privilege of being his students or working with him have been greatly influenced by his work and been personally touched by his magnanimous personality.  We will remember his kindness, patience and generosity in helping us through the hard times in graduate school and his continued support of our research and our careers.

Feel free to pass it on to other.
Thanks,
Maria de la Luz Reyes
