(Assimilation & accommodation, or appropriation? -- i'm confused by these
distinctions, BUT) -- add, from "Timewalkers: The prehistory of global
civilization" by Clive Gamble, which I stumbled across reading Katherine
Nelson while in San Diego, **exaptation** : the use of an existing tool for
a new purpose, which sets up all sorts of affordances/ demands for novelty
in thinking and doing.
