A discouraging character

Dear colleagues,

Sorry for making an aside to the Arievitch discussion. I just wanted to
share the following. There was an interview this Sunday in a local Chilean
newspaper to Harvard proffessor SAMUEL P. HUNTINGTON. In brief, talking
about his last book, the guy says that he supported from a government
position the Latin American dictatorships of the 70s, that bilinguism is
destroying the national character of the United States, and that hispanic
immigration is destroying the protestant ethic that shaped the United States
society and economy. Alas! Don't come as a surprise coming from the same guy
that saw the current crisis with Islam as a conflict of civilizations.
Still, quite discouraging words for those that think that bilinguism is good
for learning tolerance, and that of course, American involvement with the
Latin American dictatorships is one of the ugliest chapters of USA history.
