Newman et al, Construction Zone, have a chapter in which goal formation
as joint mediated activity is described in some detail. I am referring to
the description of a piagetian-style formal operational goal-- finding
all possible pairs of a set of chemicals, arises in the course of
social interaction in which other goals initially predominate.
