This may be of interest to xmca'ers, given the diverse contexts from which
we're from.

Subject: Electronic access to recently published books

There is a new library service which may be of interest (perhaps
primarily to
residents of countries where library budgets are severely restricted). A
number of publishers are now placing electronic versions of their recent
books on
line at ebrary. I have been told that John Benjamins is placing all of
their
new books with ebrary. I also know that at least some linguistics books
published by other companies are also available there. Apparently, over
35,000
titles are available at this time.

The address is <ebrary.com>. (No www in front.) Then click on
<discover.ebrary.com> which will get you to a page where you can
register and do searches.
You can search to see what is available without registering, but you
can't
read anything until you register. Registering requires a deposit of at
least US
$5.00. That money can then be used to pay for downloading ($0.50 per
page),
or printing ($0.25 per page). but you can read as much as you want to,
once
you have put your deposit down.
