Wow. Thank you (all) so much for your insights. I'm going to re-read all the messages and then get back to you.
You have contributed a lot to re-direct my look onto the question. Phil made me realize that thinking in terms of dichotomies is something difficult to get rid of. I feel that it takes quite some time to be able to really "incorporate" vygotskian concepts.
