Bruce-- In my part of the US, massive numbers of poor people are about to
be forced out of welfare. At the same time, the accumulated evidence on
the prior wave to gotoworkism is that parental income is not lowered but
parents are home less and kids are in worse shape.

Its hard to see how to deal with the costs of health care because of the
enormous expense of new technologies that prolong life. Everyone wants
more, but there appears no politically viable way to distribute the added
costs when the US is about to face a giant increase in national debt (there
was no politically viable way when there was a surplus-- better to put the
300$ into a new SUV!
