Rituals?

Hi Folks,

Been reading from the archives lately. The ideas for support and so on seem
like positive developments. I'd like to briefly suggest a small change in
practice. One of the things another mailing list (dead runners society -- DRS)
uses is a routine called the "obligatory running note" or ORN for short. This
not-so-obligatory but often-followed ritual is a sentence or two at the end of
the email that describes the poster's running workout.

So the proposition i wish to put before you is a similar not-so-obligatory
ritual -- the obligatory question (OQ). It's a mix of what DRS writers do and
what Eugene does. This action might help to flatten the expert/novice schism,
and put us on the path of reciprocal/joint learning. A question of a form that
does not demand a yes/no answer, but furthers inquiry. An OQ is not required,
but if taken up by xmca'ers, it becomes habitual. So by example,

OQ: Who has written about the problems in the distinction between tools being
directed outward, and symbols being directed inward?

Thanks,
