collective subjects

As it turns out, in our weekly DL session with UCLA this week, the issue
of a group, such as the organizers of ISCRAT as a collective subject
came up. Yrjo emphasized the time-limited and somewhat optimistic nature
of his analysis of this case. But the discussion did touch on the issues
that Don, Bill, and others have raised here.

My own approach to such issues is to take them on a case by case basis
because quesions like how to conceive of community, subject, rule, mediating
tool, etc. ordinarily lead me into confusion if I cannot rise to concrete
cases in a way that seems useful.
