Don--

There has been so much collatoral mail that I did not get a chance to respond
to your first posing of this question:

So I'm still looking for that dynamic force that promotes movement and
change. Perhaps I will find it in Seattle next week?

I can't speak to Seattle-- I got snookered by their web page which told me
I had no role there-- only to learn subsequently that I am being irresponsible,
but my own inclination to thinking about this issue very much focuses
on issues of coordination. In so far as ego is experiencing/interpreting
events as being coordinated with her/his goals/actions new goals and motives
are not likely to arise. If we go this direction in discussion, Bateson's
stick will make its reappearance.

(who must now go coordinate wiht a room full of students!)
