In the introduction Engstrom writes:

"So the research reported in this book is theoretical research aimed at the
construction of categories, using a specific type of empirical data. This
specific type of data typically consists of propositions and findings of
previous analyses,  or more generally,  of previous representations of the
object of research."

Engstrom is right on track with his theoretical construct. The social
sciences currently have enough data to formulate a proper theory for
explaining general human development. Providing a framework that allows this
data to be systematically studied and then categorized is an important step
in unifying the social sciences.
