interestingly, i think the soviet state has produced a unique phenomenon -
people en masse did not believe in media and were unbelievably sceptical.
there used to be a joke about this at the time -- if moscow radio, for
example, announced that 'the time is now 9pm', nobody believed that. this
attitude is still partly there...

my 14 year old son watched that program with the intensity he usually
reserves for the Simpsons.
i sat with him for a while and i wondered at the fluidity of human
perception,
of how we interpret the same evidence differently-
what i mostly wondered was
why do the conspiracy proponents like their conceptual framework better
than the NASA framework?
what do they get out of believing in a conspiracy by our government?
what do i get out of believing humans did walk on the moon?
