right, i don't have the French version at-hand, but could this not be
read to mean, the viewpoint of the goal....objective-goal, not,
objective-notsubjective

it seems to me that Foucault is talking about a dynamic theory of
power/knowledge here, where he regards power as tactically deployed,
precisely where knowledge comes to be interpretable as a function of "who
benefits" --- ie, from a perspective of knowledge as strategically oriented
to a specific goal or objective.......

dunno Nate, this is how i read it anyway?

I don't think it should be read as objective / subjective definately not
scientific / unscientific. I agree that he was putting forward a
complicated account for power / knowledge. In his interviews in Power /
Knowledge he mentions that what he is putting forward is an analytics not a
theory of power.

I do however thinks he questions the marcro as a rational force in which
there is a macro if its race, class, gender, or sexuality. In this way he
attempts I think to move the debate away from large structures and points
toward how micro practices and discourse have a certain "effect". In this
way he moves away from a rational middleclass or hetereosexual ideology that
seeks to opress, repress, exploit ect. although that might be the effect.
Effect in the double meaning of the word as in the gender effects of Butler,
but also cause and effect.

  My thought at present anyway.
