You can also look at chapter 7 of "Ways of saying; ways of meaning" - a
collection of Hasan's papers edited by Cloran, Butt & Williams, 1996. There
is one more paper I can think of in a different collection but I don't see
it at the moment to cite from. Ch. 7: "Speech genre, semiotic mediation and
the development of higher mental functions."
