Dear Mike, Pedro et al,
I have recently received a small grant fro IREX, which allowed me to do some
research in Russia. I worked with my former colleagues and presented in
Moscow and Siberia. The program arranged by my Russian colleagues included my
participation and presentation at annual conference on Developmental
Pedagogy, held in Krasnoyarsk. This conference unites researchers and
teachers working in the tradition of cultural-historical psychology and
activity theory. I was happy to see a significant development of
Developmental Education in many schools on the territory of the Former Soviet
Union. After the conference together with Boris Elkonin and the group of
teacher researchers and subject specialists we were designing the curriculum
for high school in Developmental Education.
I worked closely with Russian teachers and principals who developed the
practice of Developmental Education. There is now an Association of
Developmental Education Schools in the Former Soviet Union and I think there
will be interesting to include presentations of teacher researchers and such
principals as Isak Frumin (Krasnoyarsk) and Tatyana Kovaleva (Tomsk, Moscow)
to report on the recent developments in the practice of educational activity.
I can discuss with them and Boris Elkonin the possibility of their
participation if there is such an interest. I can also help with the
necessary translations, which Boris at least will obviously need.
Another question is the financial support for their trip to the conference...
So, what do you think?
