I haven't been following this debate about "stupid vs ignorant"...but
thought I'd share a nice turn of phrase used by Donaldo Macedo
(collaborator of Paulo Freire) in the title of an article he wrote ca. 1996
(?) "The Stupidification of America..." He started out talking about the
political doublespeak used by George Bush and the US establishment in
justifying the invasion of Iraq (Operation Desert Storm), and went on to
generalize about the hegemonic practices in the media and schools

whoever wrote the following seems to be talking about the same thing:
