Mike below Vygotsky focuses more on what could be seen as activity or =
context, but what he terms experience.

In Child Psycology pp. 294-295 Vygotsky discusses the various unities or =
units of analyses. In reference to the unity of personality and =
environment he argues that unity or unit of analyses is experience. =
Vygotsky argues;=20

"experience has a biosocial orientation, it lies between personality and =
the environment that defines the relation of the personality to the =
environment, that shows what a given factor of the environment id for =
personality".

"Most essential, therefore, is rejection of absolute indicatoers of the =
environment; the child is part of the social situation, and the relation =
of the child to the environment and the environment to the child occurs =
through experience and activity of the child him/her self".

While Vygotsky used the term experience the quotes would make sense if =
one subsituted "activity" or "context". What Vygotsky referred to as =
experience as a unit was utilized by El'konin in creating "leading =
activities" in development. These quotes do not seem at odds with the =
contextual approach within Activity Theory or Cultural Psychology. =20
