Dear Eugene,

the origins of March 8th dated back to 1875. On this day women of New
York=B4s textile and tobacco factories demonstrated for equal rights
between men and women. The women were crushed by the police.=20

In 1910 on the international socialist convention in Copenhagen, Klara
Zetkin (later member of the German Reichstag) declared the 8th March to
the International Women`s Day. She emphasized that this day is not only
a demonstration for equal rights, but a day to express rebellion against
the capitalist system too.

One year later more than one million women in Germany, Australia,
Denmark, and Switzerland demonstrated for the right to work and
ediucation for women.

In 1975 the United Nations declared March 8th as the Internationa
Women`s Day.
