The metaphor of a classroom might be more the talmudic academy, where
teachers and students blended and the most respected scholars were up
front with newcomers and less confident learners farther back. The
discourse is not unlike the talmudic dialogue- pilpul- in which issues
are presented and various points of view are aired and argued.
