Hi everyone:
I'm a doctoral student at Vanderbilt University, Department of Teaching &
Learning, Language & Literacy. I'm currently working at an organization
called Partnership for After School Education in New York City, a
professional association of community based organizations providing after
school services for youth. I've passed my quals, and am on the third (and
I'm hoping final)draft of my proposal. I want to do an educational
ethnography of an after school program from a socio-historical perspective,
using the construct of communities of practice.

I enjoy reading the correspondence on the xmca list (unless I get too
swamped at work to even read it), much of it relevant to my research
interests. Once or twice I've participated in the listserve, but I get
rather self-conscious at times, mainly because I'm a novice researcher, and
can't keep up with some of the conversation. Kind of parallels the concept
of Legitimate Peripheral Participation -- I'm on the periphery and
spiraling in.
