>The Department of English at Colorado State University invites
applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of
English Education. This is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment,
beginning August 15, 1999. The qualified candidate will have experience
teaching English in secondary schools and background in multiple discourses
in English, particularly literacy studies and secondary school English
education.

>Responsibilities Applicants must be able to teach graduate and
undergraduate students about the connections among reading-writing theory,
literacy, and educational practice. Teaching responsibilities include five
courses a year, primarily in the graduate and undergraduate teacher
licensure programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to
advise students, engage in research and scholarly activity, and provide
service to the department, university, and community.

>General Information Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins,
a growing community of 110,000 at the base of the Rocky Mountain Front
Range, 60 miles north of Denver. The area is noted for its natural beauty
and abundant cultural and recreational activities. The English department
at Colorado State has a tenure track faculty of 45, approximately 410
majors, and over 125 graduate students. We appoint more than 40 graduate
assistants who teach expository writing, English as a second language,
computer-assisted writing, and creative writing. Undergraduate
concentrations in literature, language, secondary teacher education, and
creative writing lead to a B.A. in English. Master of Arts degrees are
offered in literature, TESOL, teaching, and communication development. A
Master of Fine Arts is offered in creative writing. See our English
