The following announcement is intended for members of the OISE/UT
community.

Announcing the formation of a 1998-99 OISE/UT Sociocultural Theory Study Group

OISE/UT students and faculty with an interest in sociocultural
theory are invited to join a newly organized study group for the 1998-1999
school year. The purpose of the study group will be to discuss issues in
sociocultural and activity theory and their applications in educational
contexts.
The meetings are expected to be informal, but with a preplanned
agenda for each meeting.
Possible activities of the study group may include:

-Presentations of members' works-in-progress
-Conference reports
-Question and answer sessions regarding the theory and application
of sociocultural theory
-Reading and discussion of sociocultural related articles and books
-Offering advice to members writing papers and theses related to
sociocultural theory
-Providing information sources such as web sites, e-mail discussion
groups, and reference materials.

The first meeting will be held during the 2nd or 3rd week of
September. Time, day and frequency of the meetings (e.g., twice a month)
will depend on members' preferences.
