Dear Friends,
This message is to announce that the International Vygotsky Academy in
Moscow, planned from May 28 to June 6, 1998, must be postponed. Many
people across the world showed interest in the IVA, which was truly
appreciated. However, Professor Leontiev has written that the
problematic situation within the leadership of the Russian Academy of
Education prevents him from directing the IVA this summer. As well,
there were problems for many participants in being able to afford to
travel to Moscow, then to ISCRAT. When the initial planning for the IVA
took place, there was no knowledge of the incredible cost of ISCRAT.
It is hoped that another IVA will be planned in the not too distant
future. Also, unless there is some unforeseen change in my plans, I hope
to be in Moscow at the Tolstoy Institute of Foreign Languages and
Cultures (directed by Professor Leontiev) during the spring semester
1999 on a Fulbright Fellowship. It would be an honor to have any of you
visit during that time. Sorry about the disappointment regarding the
IVA, and hope that it will take place in the future. With best regards
to all, Dot Robbins
