Hey xmca'rs!
How about a big fat chance to tie together socio-cultural theories and
the gritty world of educational politics.
In the province of BC, teachers in one school district (Surrey) were
banned by the school trustees from using books (story) in K/1 classes
that depict same-sex parent families.
A bunch of teachers are taking the trustees to court, and this is now in
the hands of the BC Supreme court. At issue is whether the books are
developmentally appropriate.
I have been providing expert (so-called) advice to the teachers group and
their lawyer, who is really smart. Yesterday, I received copies
of the affadavits submitted by the trustees. WOW! Piaget himself, apparently
would have deemed these books developmentally inappropriate for young children.
There are about 8 affadavits from top-notch developmental folks at
major universities in the us and Canada.
Soooooooooooooooo.......

Who would be willing to help write a critique of the affadavits?
Fame and fortune await to be sure- well, at least a feeling of
immense satisfaction from doing a job for a great cause.

Plz. let me know asap if you would like to be part of the team.

Mary
