Hello again, friendly forum,

I dropped out of our continuous conversation in October 97 when taking off
to a conference in Switzerland, of which more anon, and fell sick on my
return. Things then piled up around exams, overdue papers and other more
private burdens, so that I never felt quite ready to jump back on the
bandwagon till now ! Meanwhile the following two publications have appeared
which tell something of what has been in my mind this past year:

SERPELL, R. (1997). Literacy connections between school and home: how should
we evaluate them ? Journal of Literacy Research, 29 (4), 587-616.

SERPELL, R. (1997). The struggle to make sense of school. Essay Review of
B.A.Levinson, D.E.Foley & D.C.Holland (Eds)(1996), The cultural production of
the educated person: critical ethnographies of schooling and local practice.
Human Development, 364-373.
