The atmosphere of antagonism permeates every discussion of educational
change these days. The discussions in this group are much less so than in
the media or even in the teachers' lounge in my building.

Every reform mandate is seen by most teachers as implied criticism, and not
the healty, supportive kind. As long as people believe that there is A
Right Way to do anything and that not doing it that way is failure, it will
be very difficult to get anyone (not just teachers) to admit that they are
"failing" and need to change to improve.
