Oh, I almost wrote this morning to suggest the possibility of telling
stories with numbers...

=2E..and also to observe that theory might be... become more of Tool than of
Rule... but what does that mean? That I see theory as productively oriented
to the future. Generative rather than stabilizing -- when I look at it I
can see this is my own preference in a gradient of possibility.

=2E..and then listening to David and Martin I think: to me methods and which
methods you choose is a lot like a choice of how many crafts an artisan
will learn to master. Can you really be a master of cloisonn=E9, intarsia,
raku, and lacemaking and... all in one? I don't think so. So telling the
story of the life of a community in multiple media like numbers,
categories, stories... takes teamwork between heterogeneous skills... and
an economy to match, no doubt.
