Greetings to the list.

I'm a Ph.D. student in instructional technology at the University of
Georgia. I'm interested in the cognitive and sociocultural features
of hybrid learning environments such as clinical clerkships, which
have aspects of both apprenticeships and classroom instruction.

Lave's work on learning and teaching in traditional apprenticeships
was my initial theoretical influence in thinking about this area.
Through a CSCW strand, I came around to Hutchins' work on navigation,
which led me to Engestrom. Since then I've been immersed in writings
about activity theory and distributed cognition.

It was one such article that led me indirectly to this list.
Ordinarily I would avoid gatecrashing an electronic community by
lurking for a while, a strategy to which I now return. Assuming I've
come to the right place though, I look forward to the discussion.

Joanne
