Stephen, one answer is simply NOISE. I taught next to someone who used film
strips to teach everything. Across the "hall" was a teacher who taught the
film appreciation class. A biology teacher nearby showed movies several
times a week. Other teachers in my area, plus me, tried to have lots of
discussions and small group work. The result was cacophany. I was hoarse
every day.
