Michigan State University, College of Education

New Position: Assistant Professor in Technology in Teaching and
Learning The College of Education at Michigan State University
announces a position for a candidate of exceptional promise with
expertise in the area of technology in teaching and learning. This
will be an academic year, tenure stream position at the rank of
Assistant Professor. The position will be in the Department of
Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education.
Affiliations with research centers in the college are also
possible. The appointment will begin in Fall, 1998. Salary will
depend upon the applicant's experience and qualifications.

Because of the rapid growth and change in information technologies
and their application in education, the College encourages
applications from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and
experiences. The successful applicant should be committed to
research and development relevant to teaching and learning in
technology-supported settings, the preparation of teachers to use
technology in K-12 settings, or implications of technology for
educational practice and policy. Candidates with interest in
applying technology to specific subject matter areas are
encouraged to apply. Technology is construed as including an
expanding set of information technologies such as computer-based
multimedia learning environments, the World Wide Web, distance
learning, and video.

The College of Education places high priority on research and
development aimed at promoting higher order learning by students
and teachers through integration of technology into the
curriculum, including the use of the World Wide Web to support
learning by preservice and inservice teachers. The Technology
Exploration Center in the College provides an exciting context for
innovative research and teaching with technology. Current projects

Responsibilities will include: (1) teaching at the undergraduate
and graduate levels; (2) working closely with the teacher
education program to integrate technology into teacher
preparation; and (3) conducting a program of research on
technology in education.

Qualifications: (1) earned doctorate; (2) demonstrated excellence
in research and teaching.
