Hi Diane--
A too brief partial next step. Yes, exclusivity go with categories,
and attitudes toward what is, and is not included, in the category. Is
it possible to create a space where the given-catories are blurred, backgrounded,
criticized, and re-admired? Where power flows in many directions, and
systems of thought "leak" into each other in ways that members experience
as enriching?
I have no idea. But the process of investigating how to use diversity
in interpreted-as-development-enhancing ways is certainly interesting.
Off to prepare for tomorrow's lecture on the politics of the
English language (Williams). The echoes of xmca discussions in my head.
