science and art as fashionable habits

Hello everyone,

Just a quick thought on the "battle" between the arts and science. =
The very existence of the conflict seems to validate Bourdieu's =
account of fields of cultural production. We do not need to look too =
far back in history to a time when science was defiled as a dirty, =
working class enterprise, and expertise in the arts, literature, and =
philosophy were essential for nobility. Alas, we cannot go to =
Congress or any other governmental body and explain to them that they =
are only prolonging a fashion, not striking forward toward the =
essential truth of the universe.

Peace, Edouard
