Dougs excursis elaborated on the intuition I had about the Shevardnadze
quote, which Rolfe seems to have articulated as well. Serendipitously
there is a review of a book in the NY Times today that discusses what
it means for all those eths to be interacting through technology that
promises mutual destruction.
A gloomy context for the discussion about artifacts!
