Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Among our goals as editors of Research in the Teaching of English is to
help develop expertise among up-and-coming literacy researchers. To meet
this goal, we are going to supplement the external reviews written by
established researchers with one review per article written by a graduate
student. We are asking for your help in this matter. If you are a
university faculty member, please recommend to us any strong doctoral
students you have who could fruitfully participate in the external review
process for articles concerning literacy issues. If you are a graduate
student and wish to participate in this process, please identify yourself to
us. Any graduate student who conducts external reviews should have both
strong analytic skills and the disposition to conduct a review in a timely
and constructive fashion--the same traits that we look for in our regular
reviewers.
If you know of doctoral students you would like to recommend for this
cohort, please send us their names, addresses, phone numbers, email
addresses, doctoral advisor, and review categories we could place them in,
both topical (e.g., response to literature, writing in the disciplines,
community literacy, etc.) and methodological (e.g., discourse analysis,
ethnography, etc.). Please send your recommendations to
psmagorinsky who-is-at uoknor.edu; do NOT send these names to listserve addresses.
Thanks for assisting us with what we hope is a valuable apprenticeship for
graduate students.

Sincerely,

Peter Smagorinsky
