Michael, a while ago you linked Vygotsky's "sense" with Bakhtin's
"theme" and now you link Leontiev's "sense" with Ilyenkov's "ideal" -
Can you elaborate more on your sense of "sense"?
I think of "sense" and "theme" as at opposite ends of a continuum:
"sense" a more or less undifferentiated soup of associations,
values, impressions specific to an individual social history,
and "theme" a qualifiable set of meanings, specifiable and sharable.
- as B. said, thematizing gives stability to meanings
(which otherwise mean nothing); In contrast, sensemaking is
stabilized by meanings (there would be no meaning without sensemaking
either, I suppose) hmmmm
I think I's "ideal" is NOT specific to an individual social history....
I'm keenly aware, as I am doing my CHAT & other homework,
practicing my scales, that I have not been trained in a theoretical
discipline.
