Ken

We've designed it for independent study (people without a Hallidayan
around) and to take others deeper, even those with good support. We
didn't
have room for our group/phrase chapters, but otherwise it has an
introduction and then follows the organisation of IFG, which chapters on
mood, theme, transitivity and the clause complex. There are graded
exercises for each chapter (3 levels) and sample text analyses. Our
students really like it and we hope it will make the work more generally
available. Any feedback welcome over time.

Now for the proofs. We just finished 5 days of the biggest International
Systemic Functional Linguistics Congress ever - 150+ papers and 370
registrations. Tremendously exciting. The weekend following we had to
turn away 50+ teachers (only booked space for 150 participants) from a
working with functional grammar conference,
organised as a response to recent media and political interventions to get
rid of the functional grammar in the syllabus and replace it with
traditional grammar. Just a mild version of your troubles, I know.

cheers,

Jim
