Angel asked for references on genre-based literacy approaches in Australia. A
book which presents a range of views on this will be published on July 6 by
Addison-Wesley Longman. Some views come from people working 'within' the
approach and developing it, including Jim, Joan Rothery, and Robert Veel, and
some from 'outside' critiquing from different theoretical perspectives.
Allan Luke, Ron Carter and Ruqaiya Hasan are examples of the latter. There is
also a new piece by Michael Halliday on a functional linguistic view of
literacy. The reference is: Literacy in society. eds. R.Hasan and
G.Williams. London: Addison-Wesley Longman.
