Betty, since I focus on meaning-making, texts, discourse practices (at
the middle grade level and above), my concern is that what is often
mystified as universal &/or natural turns out to be social-conventional.
I have lots of questions about how to address conventions at all levels
in the teaching of writing, & I know people on this list could help.
But another time....
