SOCIAL FOUNDATIONS/ANTHROPOLOGY OF EDUCATION

Description: Faculty member in the Social and Comparative
Analysis in Education program area whose research
and teaching interests involve the application of
anthropology to the study of educational policy and
practice in the context of the United States and
globally. Responsibilities include teaching five
courses per year, advising graduate students,
serving on thesis/dissertation committees,
contributing professional and university service,
pursuing grants and contracts, and developing a
strong program of scholarship.

Opportunities exist for a secondary appointment in
Arts and Sciences departments and programs (e.g.,
Africana Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Studies,
and Women Studies). Affiliation is also possible to
the School of Education's Institute for
International Studies in Education (IISE); area
studies programs (Asia, Latin America, Russia and
East Europe, and Western Europe) in the University
Center for International Studies (UCIS); and the
Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC).

Candidates should have a doctorate in Education,
Anthropology or a related field.

Appointment: Tenure-stream appointment on a two-term, eight-
month basis with possibility of paid teaching and
project/consulting work during the summer term.
Beginning date: September 1996.
