Michael,
I just would like to mention that one of the main Vygotsky's ideas was the
notion of ideal form. This notion could help us to understand the links
between ritual and activity. Ideal form can be understood in that context as a
cultural moving force of activity. The idea of ideal form is underestimated
in education.
