Field Note Software

Last week someone asked a question about a software program for
ethnographers, one that allows for the coding of field notes
. The question seems to have died, and I'd like to revive it.
In fact, I was going to make a similar request myself.

This year I'm in a block schedule classroom (85 minutes every other
day) every time they meet (it's a high school English class). A
research assistant and I are both taking notes on laptops. Currently,
I'm using Wordperfect 5.1 and constructing a narrative on the fly.
While at a conference last week, someone told me that there are
now programs available that are specifically designed for this
purpose. I'm assuming that on a network like xmca, there are
some people who do ethnographies and know about these tools.
Could we get some reviews and recommendations, much as we did
for organizational software last month? I'd appreciate it, and
I'm sure others would too.

Thanks.
