I've just finished a draft of a paper I will read a conference on
Bridging the Sciences and the Humanities via Semiotics to be
convened at the University of Toronto on 2-5 November. Those folks
at or near Toronto on this list ought to look at this conference
since Tom Sebeok & Umberto Eco, among others, will be speaking.
Anyway, as usual I'm happy to distribute a preprint of the talk
and I'd really appreciate fast turnaround critique if possible, sinc
Nov 5 is right around the corner, and most of next week i'll be at
the Semiotic Society of America meeting in san antonio. If you
would like a copy, email me at gshank who-is-at niu.edu and i'll reply it
back to you. feedback, esp on blatant errors and sources i've
inadvertantly ignored, are esp wanted.
the topic of the paper is
"Semiosis, Tribablity, and Tribal Pedagogy."
briefly, it argues that tribality is the default mode of human
social organization, that post-enlightenment western culture has
conducted a war on tribality, and that western culture is finally
winning the war much to the destruction of both culture and
pedagogy.
thanks as usual for the help....
