One example I know something about is Vivian Paley. Until Harvard Press
agreed to publish *White Teacher* Vivian had been turned down so many
times she was ready to give up.... and the rest, as they say, is history.
But Vivian explicitly rejected the idea that she was a researcher,
teacher researcher or otherwise. And times have changed, helped in part
by her success.
So, what are the issues?
