EdCharles and Edouraard-

Both of you have made references to the cynicism min myu comments on
the pledge. Edouard goes on to refer to the "apparent lack of concern
for th e emotional bonding? iwith one's country.

There was NO cynicism inno intended cynicism in my remakrks and I take it as important
that my remarks were interpreted in that fashion. CritiI hAVEAM am suer e

When emotional bonding cannot be deocomposed (analyszed) it leads to
phenomena like Bosnian solderiers firing cannon at their parents because
they are i the wronn the wrong place, Russian politicians admitting to crimes
against their people they did not commit, and Colorday leiwitch hunts, etc.

I was serious about thinking that the pepledge of allegiance would make
a great staqrrting point ofrfor a currciuiculum,. Dumb maby, ybe, but serious. I
don't like the cirumcumstances that raised theissue issue and I strongly
sympathisze with the fears of thos ee who porprpooposed the dieas.ideas.

Once again we see the weakness of theis medium in which all of us are
so easily seduced into interpretations of the words of quasi strangerrs.

Hpow aboutow about dropping this dumbe line of discussio n and getting back to the
issue of school refrmorm more generally.

Today the Prses was in MY HOME TOWNTOWN and yesterday he was in MY HOME TOWN.
He glowed with pleasure about thegetting all schools hooked up theto the
ihternternet.

I am geting myting gkids hooked to the internet too, and like onther s on xmacca,
I am working to find worthwhile actviicvvities for them there. WEe at LCHC
and our colleague sin ours in our literacy consortium focused on afterschoo
activities have worked up a litltetle bit of porromising stuff for kids to
do. Might we consider having all the ofolks on xlchcmca who ahave this as
one threatd in their activities cooperate to link the vatriousr8ouious sites
in productive ways/?

Whjat aSugeggetionsstions for productive plinks and acticvvities most welcome from thnose. We are
not doing a great job, but we are trying hearard.
